Coronavirus update

June 17, 2020 Update

FME Little League Parents,

The following message is about Majors Baseball and Softball, Minor AAA Baseball, and Minor A Softball.  All other divisions have been cancelled for 2020.

We are excited to announce that we are ready to start practicing under Washington State’s Phase 2 guidelines.  We have created a Restart Plan that is required by the county and fields we rent that we believe meets the Washington State Phase 2 requirements, Little League Best Practices, and CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19.

We are putting our best foot forward for those parents and athletes that want to continue with a season this summer.  Please review the attached flyer for information on how we will abide by Phase II guidelines.  We will be working with coaches to begin scheduling practices.

Next Steps:

Phase 2 Important Items:
Our teams will be limited to groups of five spread out across the field. Due to Washington State requirements, parents will not be allowed to stay at the field.  We understand this may be difficult for many of you and it is not ideal.  However, if we do not abide by this requirement we will not have access to fields nor be allowed to open by the county.

Looking forward to Phase 3:
Washington State has directed that games may begin in Phase 3.  One of the stipulations is that there is a limit of 50 individuals per field.  We are told that this includes players, coaches, umpires, and fans.  We are waiting for clarification, but please note that this may require no parents at games either.  While we hope that each team will be using GameChanger for online scorekeeping, we understand that many parents would have concerns about this.  In summary, if we are required to keep fans and participants down to 50 per field, we will likely have to have no parents at games as well.  We will update if the guidance changes.

We also do not currently know how long the season will run through.  Once we get to Phase 3 in Pierce County we will have a better understanding of long we expect to play for.  Our hope is to play games at least in July and August.

Cancel Registration:
If, after reading the updated restart plan or the above issues with Phase 3, you would like to cancel your registration please notify us this week ([email protected]) and then fill out our cancellation form.  We will need to rearrange teams to account for prior cancellations and would like to avoid team roster changes once practices begin.

We thank you for your patience and look forward to getting these teams back on the field.

Sincerely,

FME Little League Board.

June 11, 2020 Update

FME Little League Parents,

We thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate through this difficult time. We do have some updates as guidance from Little League and Washington State has come in.

Minor AA/A Baseball, Minor B Softball, Tee-Ball
We are very sorry to announce that due to CDC, Little League International, and Washington State guidance around social distancing requirements along with field closures/conflicts, coach/volunteer gaps and other issues we are cancelling our Baseball Minor AA and A Divisions, Softball Minor B Division, and T-Ball. This was not an easy decision for the board and many of us have children that are impacted.

Majors SB/BB, Minor AAA Baseball, Minor A Softball Division Updates

We are in the process of creating our Safe Restart Plan and solidifying if we have enough players, coaches, and fields to have a season for Majors Softball/Baseball, Minor AAA Baseball, and Minor A Softball.

Refunds
We are still processing refunds but there is about a 2-3 week delay as our registration platform deals with the backlog of requests. For canceled divisions, please fill the following form out by June 22nd if you want to direct where your refund goes (Refund, Credit, or Donation). If you do not fill out the form by June 22nd and are in a canceled division we will begin processing your registration refund back on your card.

Next Steps
We plan to share our Safe Restart Plan to our upper divisions next week that will contain many details to help you decide if you will still want to move forward with the season.

We are very sorry that the season has ended before it started for most of our league. Thank you for your patience and support as we try to navigate through these times.

Sincerely,

FME Little League Board

About FME Little League

Dear FMELL Families,

As we watch the seasons change and the weather warm up it’s very difficult for us to see our baseball fields stay empty. We know all of our athletes and coaches want to be out on the fields making memories, building friendships, and having fun.

As you may have heard, Little League International recently updated the postponement of the season to start no earlier than May 11th. We will be working with our local Little League District 10 leadership, Little League International, and local authorities to determine when we can safely gather as teams and restart the season.

Please read this open letter to the parents that Little League published this week:
https://www.littleleague.org/news/little-league-open-letter-to-parents

Once we have a clearer picture of when the season will start, we will provide updated information on each division. It is very likely that if we have a season the schedule would be extended much further than normal.

Many of you are wondering if we will be initiating refunds. Unless we have direction from Little League International that the season is canceled, we are planning to have our season restart. However, we will also be reviewing our finances over the next month in case the season is shortened or canceled to prepare for the possible event of refunds or credit toward the next season. We thank you for your patience as we wait for further direction, we do not want to take premature action that would impact the many teams that have already been created.

For now, please keep playing catch with your son or daughter. There are other tips located here as well, but please keep them fun if you use them!
